All of the thirteen one-step sparring moves begin with both the "attacker" and "defender" in the ready-stance. The attacker signals that he is ready by taking a step back into front stance with a strong down block and a Qi-ap! When the defender is also ready, he signals with a Qi-ap! remaining in the ready-stance. The attacker then steps and punches, and the defender responds with one of the thirteen one-step sparring moves. There is one one-step sparring move that starts by taking a step to the center.
